Growing up in Rome and starting my broadcasting career in Utica, I’ve heard about Beardslee Castle many times, but never had a chance to visit. That changed this year, thanks to Megan and Jimmy booking me as their wedding DJ! They picked a beautiful fall day to get married on the castle’s front lawn, followed by dinner and dancing inside.
The plans called for an outdoor ceremony on the front lawn, then reception would be held indoors, in the private event space that occupies Beardslee Castle‘s upper level. Although my services were only needed for the indoor portion of the schedule, you have to be prepared for bad weather. I was on-site and on-duty early, in case rain forced the ceremony indoors. We had a very iffy forecast all week, and while it turned out to be chilly, we managed to escape the rain!
Since I was already set-up and just waiting anyway, I made use of the unique vantage point upstairs to get some shots of Megan’s entrance, her arrival at the altar, and the crowd watching the ceremony.
Being “on standby” to begin the music early turned out to be a good idea anyway: The ceremony didn’t last quite as long as scheduled. And with the chill in the air, it was no surprise that some guests made a beeline indoors. I was ready to begin the cocktail hour music the moment they walked in. After the cocktail hour, the introductions and first dance led into dinner. Toasts and the parent dances were held toward the end of dinner, serving as our segue to open up the dance floor.
