Peter Naughton’s abilities as an emcee and disc jockey are built upon more than a decade of radio and television broadcasting in Central New York.
Peter got his start in radio in 1999, as a part-time DJ for leading Utica radio stations Lite 98.7 (WLZW) and Big Frog 104 (WFRG), while attending the broadcasting program at SUNY Oswego. After a short stint in Utica television news during the final semester before earning his degree, Peter was promoted to a full-time position with Lite 98.7 as the station’s afternoon drive host and eventually, the program director. As part of his duties, Peter voiced dozens of commercials and hosted many remote broadcasts, radiothons, contest giveaways and other events.
In 2005, Peter moved up to the larger Syracuse market, as a news producer for ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 during the week, and, on weekends, as a news anchor for then-sister stations Newsradio 570 WSYR in Syracuse and (thanks to technology) WHJJ in Providence, Rhode Island.
TV news was exciting, but after nearly four years, Peter was ready to move onto something that offered normal hours (no overnights or holidays). Although Peter left full-time broadcasting in 2009, he couldn’t completely cut himself off from the industry. Since then, he’s enjoyed the chance to return briefly to Lite 98.7’s weekend lineup, and later, to help launch Syracuse’s 95.3/103.9 The Dinosaur in 2014.
