The 2018 wedding season is off to a wonderful start! Had a great time helping Paula and Sarah celebrate their nuptials at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Syracuse, just off Carrier Circle. My first wedding of 2018 also marked the debut of my brand new wireless uplighting! Check out photos, song selections and more in today’s blog post.
Paula and Sarah tell me they’ve been together for years, but it was only recently that they decided to get married. And by “recently,” I mean less than two months. Yes, less than two months — to book a venue, book other vendors, and then send invitations out with enough time to get them back before the final meal count deadline. Amazing!
Despite the relatively-short timeframe, plans came together quickly and smoothly. At our first meeting, we dove right into the nitty-gritty of the planning process: timelines, logistical concerns, song selections and announcements. Updates were exchanged via email.
Big thanks to Stephanie from Embassy Suites for letting me stop by in mid-January to discuss the room layout — it was a big help, especially to confirm the best way to handle sound for the cocktail hour, which was in a different space than the ceremony and reception.
Day-of, everything went right according to plan. Here are the brides’ song selections for the key moments of their wedding day:
Key Wedding Song Selections
- Ceremony Processional: Acoustic guitar cover of Beatles / In My Life
- Ceremony Grand Entrance: Acoustic guitar cover of Pachelbel’s Canon in D
- Ceremony Recessional: Acoustic guitar cover of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March
- Wedding Party Intros: Stevie Wonder / Signed, Sealed, Delivered
- First Dance: John Legend / All of Me
- Cake Cutting: James Taylor / How Sweet It Is
- Last Dance of the Night for Everyone: Ed Sheeran / Thinking Out Loud
- Last Dance of the Night for Newlyweds: Etta James / At Last
As mentioned at the top of the post, you’ll spot my brand new uplighting units in some of these photos! My old uplights had to be plugged-in, which presented some limitations. The new lights worked wonderfully. Cyan and coral were selected by the brides, as part of their beach-themed decor.

Thank you, again, Paula and Sarah, for finding me and choosing me as your DJ! It was a pleasure to meet you both, and an honor to be a part of your very special day. I had a great time, and I’m thankful we managed to have decent weather!
