Wedding: Reese and Cyrus at Harv’s Island, June 2020

Wedding: Reese and Cyrus at Harv’s Island, June 2020

Thanks to Coronavirus, all of my Central New York wedding DJ engagements this summer have been postponed until the fall or next year. But the pandemic didn’t prevent me from virtually spinning the hits at one of the most suddenly-popular venues where masks and other social distancing measures are not a concern at all.

That venue is Harv’s Island, located a short (and free!) plane ride from the home island of anyone playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch. (Yep, if you’re not already playing it, chances are you’ve at least heard of it by now.)

Full disclosure, Reese and Cyrus have already been married for a few years, so this was more of an anniversary celebration. Still, everyone had lots of fun celebrating… we’ll get to that shortly. But first, as always, I’ll share the couple’s musical selections for their restyled wedding reception.

Reese and Cyrus’ Key Song Choices

These amorous alpacas are big fans of legendary guitarist K.K. Slider, but he’s booked solid for most weekends for the foreseeable future. Hence, I had the chance to play Reese and Cyrus’ favorite K.K. Slider hits in his absence. Luckily, he provided me “airchecks” from some of his recent concerts.

  • Processional: K.K. March
  • Grand Entrance: K.K. Chorale
  • Recessional: Animal City

  • Wedding party intros: K.K. Technopop
  • Newlyweds’ intros: Drivin’
  • First Dance: K.K. Love Song
  • Cake Cutting: Stale Cupcakes
  • Bouquet Toss: K.K. Disco
  • Garter Toss: K.K. Flamenco
  • Last Dance of the Night (everyone): I Love You
  • Last Dance of the Night (newlyweds only): Farewell

Photo Album Highlights

Reese and Cyrus were gracious hosts, inviting several friends from the nearby island to fly over and enjoy the celebration. While I usually try to setup out-of-camera-view for ceremonies… well, I hate to ever say anything negative about a venue, but there was actually much less space than those mountains in the background would have you believe.

All in all, a wonderful time had by everyone. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the night was the cleanup. When the party was all over, everyone simply picked up everything — including tables (place settings and all) — and just put them in their pockets and walked right out the door! Fastest setup and teardown I’ve ever witnessed in my decade as a wedding DJ.

Thanks again to Reese and Cyrus for letting me DJ your anniversary party — and thanks for the furniture, too! It fetched a decent price when I sold it all at Nook’s Cranny looks great in my house! Maybe we’ll do it again for your next anniversary.

On a serious note…

With many weddings this year being postponed, I know many couples and wedding professionals are bummed out about the way 2020 has been so far. I hope (especially if you play Animal Crossing) this chance to virtually visit a wedding cheered you up a little!

As of this writing, all my 2020 weddings through mid-September have been postponed, mostly into 2021. Here’s to looking forward to safer, better times ahead because I miss playing weddings and can’t wait to get back to helping couples celebrate! Until then, stay safe, everyone… If not for yourself, do it for those around you.
