Syracuse - Utica - Central New York Wedding DJ | Corporate Event DJ | Voiceovers :: 315.542.2112
Wow, I’m way behind on my blogging! Since I’ve last posted here, I’ve done four weddings… including three weekends in a row in September! Now that I’ve got a long break before the next wedding, time to finally catch-up with the blog! Christina and Afix’s wedding at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse was the first of that September 3-in-a-row run. Keep reading to check out the photos and the song selections!
Although I’ve done a few weddings at the Genesee Grande (soon to be rebranded Scholar Hotel Syracuse) in the past, this was my first one to include an on-site ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Tiffany Ballroom, with chapel-style seating. Wireless lavalier (lapel) microphones were provided to both officiants. My second sound system provided music for the cocktail hour, in the lounge just off the lobby. During cocktail hour, the wait staff “flipped” the ballroom, by bringing in all the dinner tables and rearranging seats accordingly.
Uplighting enhanced the entire ballroom, and specifically, several units were dedicated to the monogrammed drapery which served as a backdrop for the ceremony, and later, the sweetheart table. A few units were also used to enhance the wedding cake display.
Christina and Afix’s Key Song Choices
- Processional: Alan Silvestri / Forrest Gump opening theme
- Grand Entrance: Piano Guys / Perfect (Ed Sheeran cover)
- Recessional: Alicia Keys / No One
- Wedding party intros: Smoke on the Water, Like to Party, Can’t Stop the Feeling
- Newlyweds’ intros: Beyonce & Jay-Z / Crazy in Love
- First Dance: Christina Perri / A Thousand Years
- Father / Bride Dance: Paul Vassar / She’s on Her Way
- Groom / Mother Dance: Iyanya / Kukere
- Cake Cutting: Empire soundtrack / You’re So Beautiful
- Last Dance of the Night: John Legend / All of Me
Dinner was followed by some unique timeline items that set this wedding apart from most. Christina’s father sang one of her favorite songs, Later On. Once the dance floor opened, Christina, Afix, the wedding party and several relatives disappeared for about 20 minutes. Another formal announcement welcomed everyone back into the ballroom in traditional Nigerian attire, honoring Afix’s side of the family. You’ll see some of these ornate, colorful outfits in the photos below.
