Many believe it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day. If you want good luck, book me as your DJ and hold the reception at the Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse! I say that because with Diane and Greg’s wedding, my record for rainy day receptions at Bellevue now stands at 2-for-2. But rain didn’t let anyone down! Check out the full blog post for plenty of photos of the packed dance floor and see how this couple’s love of the Syracuse area was reflected throughout the evening.
(I suppose I should include the disclaimer you usually see associated with financial or stock-related items: “prior results do not guarantee future performance.” While my microphone lends me a certain amount of “crowd control” at a reception, I’m afraid I can’t control the weather. But hey, if anyone reading this plans to have their reception at the Bellevue, let’s talk and see if we can test the “rainy day” theory some more!)
When guests arrived at the Bellevue Country Club, they were greeted by some unique table placecards: instead of going with table numbers, Diane and Greg chose to name the tables after various local landmarks that have been important to them in some way or another throughout their relationship. Locations included The Ritz Dance Studio, World Martini Bar, Green Lakes State Park, Papa Gallo Restaurant and Whistlestop Florist, just to name a few. You’ll notice in the photo at right, each guest’s placecard included a photo of the location, the guest’s name and their meal selection, all held on a small wooden block with the word “Love” on it. A nearby sign informed guests that Diane and Greg hand-crafted each one, and invited guests to take them home to use as photo holders!
Here are the songs Diane and Greg selected for the key moments of the evening:
- Wedding Party Intros: Custom-edited snippets from 7 different songs were used to introduce each pair in the wedding party.
- Bride and Groom Entrance: Icona Pop / I Love It
- First Dance: Timeflies / I Choose U (acoustic version)
- Bride / Father Dance: Phil Collins / You’ll Be in My Heart
- Groom / Mother Dance: Mikki Viereck / Song for My Son
- Cake Cutting: Ingrid Michaelson / You and I
- Last Dance of the Night for Everyone: Halestorm / Beautiful With You
Diane and Greg also selected lots of great songs in advance… these, combined with some guest requests throughout the evening, helped keep the dance floor active continuously through the evening! Here are some photos:

The longer I’ve been in the DJ business, the more often I run into some of the same vendors. It was great to once again work with Marleah, Heather and the rest of the Bellevue Country Club staff — top notch, all around! It was also a pleasure to once again to work alongside Calypso Rae Photography, who shot my own wedding 3½ years ago. Here’s a spectacular shot she took outside in the rain:
Update 8/17/15: Calypso Rae’s website has her own blog post, packed with wonderful photos from the entire day — not just reception, but also the ceremony and some shots in between. Also new since this blog was first posted, Diane checked-in with a wonderful, 5-star review on my WeddingWire page:
Even though Peter was the first DJ that we met with, we booked him on the spot. We were incredibly impressed with his organization and attention to detail. He was incredibly flexible; his questionnaire gave us the opportunity to dictate every detail of the night if we so chose. We decided to provide him with a list of “must play” songs and a list of other artists that we like. Peter did a great job of playing all of our songs and filling in the gaps with other music to get the crowd dancing.
From the introductions to the very last song, Peter made sure that the night ran seamlessly. The timeline that he provided to the venue and the photographer helped keep everyone on the same page throughout the night.
Peter is so responsive and easy to get ahold of that one of the bridesmaids contacted him a week before the wedding to see if she could incorporate music into her speech. He was on board and the music helped her speech be a hit!
We would absolutely recommend Peter to anyone looking for a reasonably priced DJ for the wedding. He was so great that the end of the night, everyone was chanting “one more song!”
I was remiss in my original post for not previously explaining the speech Diane mentioned in her review: The groom’s sister gave a toast which consisted of witty (yet endearing) “thank you notes” to her brother… in the style of Jimmy Fallon’s weekly “thank you notes” segment from the Tonight Show. Allison even found a “clean” (ie. no words, applause or any other sounds) version of the music used on the show, which she provided to me, along with a copy of her speech. Following along with her script, the music came in right on cue, and the crowd loved it. I really enjoyed seeing the reaction.
Thank you so much to Diane and Greg for choosing me as your wedding DJ and for taking the time to write such a great review! I really enjoyed working with you to help plan your reception and I wish you both all the best for love, health and happiness for decades to come.
