One of the “perks” of being a DJ is getting to see all sorts of new places around the area. For my latest DJ booking, I took a scenic drive from Syracuse up to Sodus Point, in Wayne County, specifically, to the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club.
When you’ve got one of the hottest summers in recent memory, the only way to improve on a day at the beach… is to have a wedding there! Well, OK, it wasn’t planned in that exact order, but everyone still had a blast celebrating Rose and Ken’s wedding at Lake Delta State Park near Rome on July 23.
Even though a DJ’s job might look easy, that smooth performance requires a certain amount of advance preparation. My rates include two face-to-face planning meetings where we’ll meet to discuss the details of your event.
Had a great time helping Dawn and Joseph celebrate their wedding at The Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown! I haven’t been to Cooperstown since 1996… while I remember driving past The Otesaga then, I’ve never actually been inside. Beautiful location, right on the lake. This reception was unique in that we had two different set-ups: one for the cocktail hour outside on the veranda, then we had to move indoors for the reception.
Many books or websites that offer advice on planning weddings or other large gatherings echo the same advice: you get what you pay for. They say that you should expect to pay a lot for a “good” DJ, as those offering really low prices usually aren’t that good. In many cases that’s correct. But here are few of the reasons I’m able to provide a quality presentation without charging as much as some of the other DJs out there.
Has your workplace suspended or greatly reduced its holiday party budget over the past few years? Times can be tough, but according to a recent USA Today article, more workplaces are bringing back perks like holiday parties and end-of-year bonuses. The article says perks can help firms “to keep morale up, retain top talent and maintain a benevolent reputation as the economy improves.” If your workplace doesn’t have a holiday party, or if you think it’s time to kick things up a notch, share the article with your boss — and be sure to share my affordable party DJ rates too!
Most wedding-related vendors need to be booked 6-12 months in advance. It’s impossible to know exactly what kind of weather your wedding day will bring. With so many people involved, you can’t just cancel or postpone due to rain. But with some planning, you can prevent bad weather from ruining your big day.
While this has nothing to do with DJ services, engaged or newlywed couples may find this useful. An article from CNNMoney.com answered some questions concerning wedding gifts. One of the biggest takeaways for couples: etiquette experts say newlyweds should send out thank-you cards within three months, debunking the old myth that you can take up to a full year.
AOL Radio released its list of the “100 Worst Songs Ever” today. With such a long list, chances are there will be some disagreements. But if you’re planning a wedding reception or any other type of party, you might find AOL’s picks helpful as you consider any songs you’d like to have “banned” when you book me to DJ your event.
